The Vinton Red Cross Community Blood Drive will be held Thursday, January 16, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Vinton Skate and Activities Center, 1703 C Ave.  All donors will be automatically entered in a contest for a chance to win an exciting Super Bowl LIV getaway in Miami, Fl, for you and a guest. Public Comment Period Begins for Iowa’s New Hemp Production Regulations

Comments can be submitted online until 4:30 p.m./CT on Jan. 22Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced that the open comment period for the state’s proposed hemp production regulations began Jan. 1. The public can visit rules.iowa.gov to read the proposed administrative rules that will regulate the planting, growing and harvesting of commercial hemp in Iowa.

Knox Blocks board members, Peter Eikamp and Jessica Albertsen, presented their donation to Virginia Gay Hospital’s CEO Michelle Schoonover and clinical nurse manager, Tyler Henkle. The hospital plans to distribute them to families in need throughout the community.

Area Grief Support Groups to begin in January

Two new grief support groups will be starting in Benton County.  There will be a new monthly support group for all people experiencing grief caused by loss.  The sessions are designed to help people move through or within their own grief journey.Participants will receive support and companionship.People that would like to socialize and eat before the meeting may arrive at 11:30 to purchase a meal.
